Time Moves Faster in Space
We are engaged!
Let me explain. Last night, Mr. Wolf asked if we could exchange Christmas presents early. Immediately I started getting anxious and my hands were visibly shaking. But I thought to myself You're prepared. Is there any reason you can't do it tonight?
And of course the answer was no, so I decided we would do it. So, we exchanged. He absolutely loved his Super Nintendo and got excited reactions with every game he unwrapped. This is the photo he posted to Facebook:
Then I told him I had learned a song for him. Before I could even bring it up, he asked if he could record it so he could always have it. He really is the best person. Seriously.
We ended up both setting our phones to record in case one didn't turn out for some reason. I have to admit, I hit a couple of bum notes in the song. I was really, really nervous. But I remembered every single one of the words. Why not? I'd been singing them in my head for a month.
I don't remember what I actually said, but I distinctly remember the feeling of having the velvety box casually hidden in my hand behind my back. I told him I needed to ask him something. His first reaction definitely confirmed he didn't know what was about to happen.
He was immediately so excited and demanded I put the ring on his finger. I paused and showed him the inscription first. And believe it or not, that sucker fit his finger like a glove. Which is great, because I think tungsten is pretty hard to resize.
I told him all about who already knew and the preparations I had been working on. We video-called both sets of parents and my brother in California. We weren't able to get ahold of his brother yet, but we're seeing him today anyway, so that'll be good. He also called two of his groomsmen. I called Valkyrie A and then put a message out for the out-of-town ladies to call me when they were available.
It was already 9:50 central time, but both West Coast ladies responded, so I was able to call them and tell them and ask them to join my squad. Now I'm just waiting for the East Coasters to respond. I gotta be able to tell them on the phone. I want to hear their voices.
I called a couple of other friends too, but it got pretty late in the night. There was at least one phone call we couldn't make because it meant waking up a sleeping child. If we did that, I think they would curse our wedding from the get-go (just kidding!)
So, we are engaged!
I can't wait to tell my aunts, uncles, and cousins on Christmas Eve night, when Mamatee's family traditionally gathers. I called my one cousin I knew wasn't going to be there and told him, and I told my cousin who is also my Maid of Honor that it had happened.
As far as
I know I just trailed off there, but that's because the people with the baby called and also one of my East Coast girls was able to talk to me. Yay! Just one Valkyrie left to reach.
Okay, I don't remember where I was going with this, so I'm gonna go.
