Am I Ready for a Dress?

Mr. Wolf, I'm going to be talking about wedding dresses in this post. Not any on me, but still preferences. This is your only warning to turn away.

There is a popular store you may have heard of, David's Bridal, that is about 3.5 miles from our apartment. Because it's so close, I have been figuring it's probably the first place I'm going to go to look for a dress. It would be convenient not to have to go far for fittings. Plus, the prices tend to be really reasonable.

I just found out they're having a pretty significant sale from now until January 17. I'm sure they have multiple sales throughout the year, but when I was looking at exactly what was on sale, some of the dresses were ones I'd previously favorited. Which makes me feel like it might be a good idea to go in.

But I really haven't been able to picture myself in a wedding dress yet. I couldn't picture the ring until I saw it on myself, so I assume it will probably be the same here. We're so far away though. I know people tend to do the dress early, but I've already changed my mind on colors a couple of times. What if that happens with this?

My plan is to take along Mamatee, Mama Wolf, and MOH M. Mr. Wolf doesn't have any sisters, so Mama Wolf is looking forward to doing the girl thing. You wouldn't think it would be too hard to coordinate three other people, but it helps when they text back quickly (looking at you with your busy job over there, Mamatee!) We'll see what happens.

Also, the David's Bridal is right down the street from the closest Portillos. I've been learning that this is a really regional food place, with the vast majority of the locations in Chicago and Northern Illinois. I tell anyone visiting the area that they should check it out at least once. It's mostly hot dogs and Italian beef and stuff like that, but it's really good. The local place where I grew up had a bunch of photos with celebrities who had stopped by in the area, kind of like they have with Pink's Hot Dogs in California, but smaller. Just trust me: chocolate cake shake. Just trust me.

Anyway, by then Mr. Wolf and I will have been to at least one expo. There are several in our area coming up in the next couple of months, including the biggest in the state just 14 miles from our house. I hope that will help me better visualize what our wedding will look like.

In the meantime, it's probably good for me to at least think about what I might like. I'm going to do a quick scan of the sale and post what stands out to me, along with their original and sale prices.

Spaghetti-Strap Allover Lace Ball Gown by Galina (OP1326) from $649 down to $99

Obviously from the perspective of our budget, a deal like this would be... ideal. And there's some dresses at this price point. But for this one in particular, it looks really young to me? Like a girl getting married straight out of high school. So, probably not for me.

Strapless A-Line Drop Waist Wedding Dress by David's Bridal Collection (WG3743) from $399 down to $99

Something about this dress baffles me because I can't tell if I like it or not. I guess I would try it on?

Tulle Ball Gown Wedding Dress with Illusion Straps by David's Bridal Collection (WG3786) from $599 down to $400

Not as much of a discount as some of the others, but relatively not that expensive in the first place (compared to the average wedding dress in general). Plus, it looks like something a ballerina would wear. Which I don't hate. This might be one I would ask to see.

Jewel Tank Tulle Wedding Dress with Lace Applique (WG3797) from $950 down to $499

This looks like a gown a Disney princess would wear. Which I love. But I don't know what shade of white, ivory, cream, etc. looks good on me yet. I don't like how much I don't know. I'm used to knowing things. Does the photo look a little like a QuinceaƱera?

Off the Shoulder Tulle Wedding Dress by Oleg Cassini (CWG729) from $1050 down to $499

This one is a real Disney princess dress. Oleg Cassini is a designer whose stuff I tend to like. But would I be nervously tugging at this dress all night? I know Mamatee had a problem with that and her dress. Maybe this one would work if it's a corset bodice.

Empire Wedding Dress with Removable Straps by Jewel (4XLWG3838) from $1008 down to $700

This dress is really pretty, but I feel like the bodice just draws attention straight to the cleavage. Which I could see making me nervous and feeling like I had to tug on my dress. Plus, I know Papatee would really rather I not.

Illusion Cap Sleeve Wedding Dress by Oleg Cassini (CWG701) from $1850 down to $900

The back really caught my eye on this one. I can't decide how I feel about the illusion effect, but this is very pretty.

Tossed Tulle Wedding Dress by White by Vera Wang (VW351077) from $1398 down to $700

This is part of a game I call "Do I like it for me or just think it's interesting?" It looks very cool and dramatic, but would I be able to dance in it?

Textured Organza Wedding Dress by White by Vera Wang (VW351178) from $998 down to $898

I really find this color interesting. I think I would want to try it on. But would I be worried that it could just look dirty in pictures? I wouldn't want that.

Did this help clarify things for me at all? I don't really know. But I guess I can bring this with me to the store.
