I've Got a Christmas Secret

Mr. Wolf said he's not going to read this blog right away so he can enjoy my thoughts later on. Which is great, because I'm just about to write about something I don't want him to see. Absolutely no peeking, Mr. Wolf! Still, just in case, I'm going to attempt to put the read more link right here.

I have a Christmas secret and he's never going to see it coming. I'm going to be proposing.

Let me lay out the whole plan for you.

So, my "real" Christmas present to him is a second hand SNES (Super Nintendo) game console with 10 games. So far I've received 7 of them in the mail. I can't really test them at home for obvious reasons, but hopefully that all works out. Last year we opened presents just the two of us, so I asked if we could do that again. I think I'm going to try to open mine first so I have plenty of time to get ready.

Just waiting on Zelda, Mega Man, and Final Fantasy.

I've been discussing everything with his best friend, Future Best Man N, and I think I'm going to wrap each one separately. Maximum amount of things to open! Maybe I'll even wrap each controller and cord? That would be pretty darn funny. He just bought wrapping paper at the store, so I think I'll be sneaking them in with my oversized purse and taking care of some of that in the hour or so between when I get home from work and when he does.

That brings me to the rest of the plan.

My main project in the hour or so between when I get home from work and when he does has been learning to play a song. Mr. Wolf absolutely loves the sound of a ukulele, and I've owned one since before we started dating, but I haven't been practicing with it much. Too many other projects. Also, when we're both at home we really like to do stuff together.

But I do know how to play it in theory. And I only need three chords for the song I chose. Changing between them and memorizing them has been the bulk of the work, especially since I got the lyrics completely down on Thanksgiving weekend.

The first day that I took my uke out, I sliced one of my left fingers a little bit on one of the strings. I had to tell Mr. Wolf it was a deep paper cut. Which is more or less what it looks like.

Enough. Enough. But what song am I playing?

That's right. Pixar's "Lava" short that was first introduced before the film Inside Out. I thought it was lovely and sweet at the time (though I have to admit I saw that film with my now ex-boyfriend on the day we broke up). The song has been in my head a lot when I think about Mr. Wolf, especially lately. Plus, like I said, three chords.

I have to figure out exactly how to transition into it from the gift unwrapping. The harder transition is actually going to be after the song, when I bring out the ring.

Best Man N helped me choose it, so if it goes poorly I know who to blame! Just kidding.

I got a confirmation it was coming just slightly before Thanksgiving, so I waited all weekend to have it in my hands on Monday. I'll tell you, I thought several times about just driving to the post office by my workplace (where it was being delivered) to pick it up myself.

The inscription is something I call Mr. Wolf

It was hard to get the entire inscription into one photo, but it reads "My favorite and my best". This is a saying I started calling Mr. Wolf ages ago and is short for "favorite person" and "best friend".

Despite waiting nervously for it, I was slightly anxious to open the box once I knew for sure what it was. Inside the white box in the above picture was a smaller, iconic fuzzy black box. You know the one I mean.

Now that I have the plan and have the ring and almost have the song down, I'm starting to get real antsy over here. I have a hard time keeping secrets when it's something positive and good I'm doing for someone. I always want to tell them early. Mr. Wolf would say I'm pretty impulsive. I begin to wonder if that will be an issue in planning and purchasing.

But anyway, I'll be good on this as long as I can share it with a few friends like I have been doing. MOH M and BM E got the whole scoop, along with a couple of others not in the future wedding party.

Although, other than MOH M, I haven't actually asked them yet. I've been waiting for it to be official. Oh boy, I just remembered that.
